Microchip Expands Family Of Low-cost, Small-package 32-bit Pic32 Microcontrollers

Bangalore, 8 March 2012 [NASDAQ: MCHP] Microchip Technology Inc., a major provider of microcontroller, analog as well as Flash-IP solutions, today announced from the Embedded World Conference with Germany the launch of the new series of low pin count 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers (MCUs) that provide 61 DMIPS associated with performance in packages no more than 5mm x 5mm, for space-constrained and cost-sensitive styles. The PIC32 "MX1" and "MX2" MCUs are the most basic and lowest-cost PIC32 microcontrollers, and are the first PIC32 MCUs so that you can feature dedicated audio along with capacitive-sensing peripherals. These latest equipment also feature USB On-the-Go (OTG) capabilities, causing them to be ideal for developing audio accessories and other applications in the buyer, industrial, medical and automotive markets. To view a brief speech on these products, visit: Scored for operation up to 105C, the actual PIC32 MX1 and MX2 MCUs include up to 128 KB of Flash and Thirty-two KB of RAM, two I2S interfaces for audio processing, an integrated hardware peripheral intended for adding mTouch capacitive touch buttons or maybe advanced sensors, and an 8-bit Similar Master Port (PMP) interface for graphics or external reminiscence. Additionally, the new devices attribute an on-chip 10-bit, 1 Msps, 13-channel Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), and also serial-communications peripherals, with the PIC32 MX2 MCUs adding Hardware OTG. The MCUs are offered in programs from 28- to 44-pins, with styles down to 5mm x 5mm, and a Zero.5mm pitch. Further easing the planning effort is Microchip's Peripheral Flag Select feature, which allows builders to "remap" most of the chip's digital-function pins, producing layout and design alterations significantly simpler. The PIC32 MX1 and also MX2 devices are compatible with Microchip's 16-bit PIC24F product line for simple migration, and are supported by the MPLAB Times IDE the single development environment for all of Microchip's 8-, 16- and 32-bit MCUs. "Expanding our PIC32 MX1 and MX2 relatives gives our customers extra options to seamlessly migrate his or her ever-changing designs," said Sumit Mitra, vice president of Microchip's High-Performance Microcontroller Division. "With 128K Flash, 32K Good old ram, the highest DMIPs per MHZ performance of any 32-bit MCU, and small plans down to 28 pins, the PIC32 MX1 and MX2 MCUs enable designers to be able to differentiate their products in the marketplace, and design size and costs very low." IC Card China Development tool assist To start development with these new MCUs, designers can use Microchip's MPLAB Starter Kit for PIC32MX1XX/2XX MCUs (part # DM320013). The USB-powered set up features a PIC32MX250F128D MCU with 128 KB regarding Flash and 32 Kilobytes RAM, as well as a 2" colour TFT show (220 x 176 pixel), capacitive-touch slider and links, SD-card storage and 24-bit audio play. Additionally, the Microstick II (part # DM330013-2) tool is available, as they are the PIC32MX250F128D Plug-In Module (part Number MA320011) for the Explorer 16 Development Board. All of these tools can be purchased today, at microchipDIRECT (). Packaging as well as availability These new PIC32 MX1 and MX2 MCUs are available in 28-pin SOIC, SPDIP and SSOP packages; a new 36-pin VTLA package; and 44-pin QFN, TQFP and VTLA bundles. Samples can be ordered these days, at . Volume-production quantities of the MCUs are sold today, at .
